Unlike most martial arts schools, Kodo Juitsu strives to teach martial arts as they were originally intended: Not for belt ranks, not for points in competitions, not for sport-style sparring; but rather, for real-life self-defense with an emphasis on the mind, body, and spirit.

All martial arts stem from Yogic and Buddhist traditions. These were brought together and originally taught at the Shaolin temples, and later influenced by other existing fighting systems with the whole of China, Japan, and Okinawa. Shaolin teachings included all aspects of modern martial arts, including punching, kicking, throws, joint locks, grappling, wrestling, weapons, healing, and deeper philosophy. As time went on, different instructors began emphasizing different parts of the Shaolin teachings, resulting in the myriad of martial arts styles we have today.

Kodo Juitsu is an effort to restore the art back to its ancient roots: all things taught in one place, as a part of one form.

Martial arts is a lifestyle, a spiritual philosophy, a way of thinking, and a way to stay healthy in mind, body, and spirit. It is about learning to protect oneself and loved ones, as much as it is about being upright within the community and leading by proper example.
